Jumpstart January 2026

As I write this the new year is almost upon us. And what a year it has been for many of us. If you’re into numerology, 2025 has been a number nine year, a year of endings. Indeed we’ve witnessed many changes around us; some good, some not so good.

Deaths, divorces, career endings, financial difficulties; but then there have been glimmers of hope on the horizon; moves to new careers, home moves, new relationships and shedding the old to welcome in the new; releasing toxic ties, limiting belief systems and the things that have held you back. If you’ve experienced a death in the past year, take this time to be gentle with yourself, focus on self care and readjustment and work towards the year ahead in small steps.

Which is what 2026 is all about; new beginnings. In numerology terms it’s a number one year, with hopeful new beginnings and a call to positive action. For those that have shed the old this year and released what has been required to let go of, this year welcomes new experiences and a new expansion of life, having learned from the lessons that have been dealt out in the past year.

Personally 2025 has seen lots of changes around me, but has thankfully not been too hard apart from difficulties at work (in my “day” job) with issues around bullying and harassment. Which is why I’m determined to leave to carry on with my own work; it’s given me the push I needed.

For the past five years it’s been quite a stagnant energy that has held me back, but this year that has shifted, and I am finally able to move in the direction I want to. My two grown boys have left home, I now have my own healing space in which to see face to face clients and I’m taking on more online clients for healing and coaching. I’ve even had a major facelift on the outside of the house, a new drive and frontage which I really didn’t expect to be done this year but I’m so grateful it has!

And gratitude is so important for personal well-being. No matter what has happened this year, try to look at the positives and embrace an attitude of gratitude. You never know what is around the corner. In the words of the late Wayne Dyer when you are in a state of gratitude you have no room for negative thoughts.

Ways to Bring in the New Year

Traditional ways to welcome in the new year include first-foot traditions. We’ve always done this as a family and is an old tradition in Scottish households and in the North of England. This means that the first person over the threshold after midnight in the New Year must arrive with something in hand. This would be a piece of coal, bread, salt, a piece of silver such as a coin or some whiskey. In our house it is usually a lucky stone brought in by my husband from outside as coal these days is hard to come by! It’s a nice little tradition to welcome in the new year.

An alternative way to bring in the new year is to burn what you want to release in 2026. This could be things that you need to let go of, physical or emotional, written on a piece of paper and ceremoniously burned. It could even be things like burning an old credit card bill as a symbolic way of releasing old debt, and a cathartic symbol to manage debts better this coming year and resolve to pay them off.

New year traditionally is the time of year where we resolve to let go of bad habits and make personal commitments to change our lives for the better, in areas such as finances, health and fitness, relationships, career and personal growth, such as gaining a qualification.

For me this year, I’m looking at building on what I’ve developed this year with my healing business both in person and online, focussing on Reiki, house healing, distance energy healing and clearing, and coaching and mentoring sessions, as well as building my YouTube channel further.

May 2026 bring in all the prosperity, good health and opportunities you wish for and all the good things you probably never thought of.
